Hangar is a design and fabrication studio focusing on metal fabrication prototyping, consulting, small-batch production, and lamp reproductions. We find it vital to blur the lines between the designer and fabricator. In doing so, our process is one that is both well-informed and of higher efficiency than either 'Design' or 'Fabrication' standing on its own.

We maintain an adaptable atmosphere to fit the needs of every project, with an emphasis on cold-rolled steel, hot-rolled steel, brass, and bronze metalworking. At our central New Jersey-based studio, we strive to push ourselves as designers, craftsmen, and artisans.

Hangar is the collaborative effort of Timothy Mellema (Bachelor's of Fine Arts, Sculpture, Pratt Institute) and Daniel Termini (Bachelor's Degree, Architecture, Philadelphia University).

Mellema, an experienced metalworker of eighteen years, has completed projects of all scales, from public art works and architectural fabrication to furniture and jewelry. Termini brings fifteen years' experience in design, architecture, fabrication, finishing, and project management to Hangar.

The meaning of “Design for Reason”

"Design for reason" means creating or crafting something with a clear purpose or intention in mind. It emphasizes the importance of considering functionality, usability, and the intended user experience in the design process.
